From the Author

Welcome to Baby Debate!           There are hundreds of books on the market and a plethora of information on the Internet that help once you're already pregnant, but no one is teaching you what you need to know before you even think about becoming a parent. I'm here to help, and that's why Baby Debate is so unique and so important.             My intention in writing this book is to open up a whole new level of consciousness about parenting and having kids. It's neither for nor against having kids; it's simply designed to give you the valuable information you need to help you make the best decision for you. It's my opinion that too many people want to be parents but have no idea what they're getting into before they do it. I also believe that people forget about putting the best interest of the child first.              This book is designed to dispel the fantasy and deliver the reality of what to think about before becoming a parent. It will give you information that you may have never heard or thought about. It will unveil aspects that perhaps no one has ever told you, but that you absolutely need to know.

We were really excited when I found this book. We expected it to be something along the lines of a per-marital book: the ultimate goal being a better family environment. Shortly into the book, we realized this was not the case. For example, the book brings up how expensive children can be. However, it does not discuss how to resolve financial issues and doesn't provide insight into how to structure your finances to account for a child. Men's fears, body changes, sex life, relationship issues... the author sounds the bell but provides no plan. The information wasn't surprising or impactful... it seemed more of a collection of what we thought was common knowledge. The author also makes fairly sexist remarks throughout and the book. This made it hard for us to read as a couple. Certainly there are significant gender differences, however one would expect the author to explain those in terms of her clinical experience rather than blindly adhering to stereotypes of both women and men. This book is actually a "should you have a baby or not" book. If you are feeling tremendous pressure in convincing your significant other to have or not have a baby, this book may help clarify some of those feelings. Otherwise, this book is unlikely to help you. Before buying this book, you should be aware that it is not designed to help you navigate a difficult path (parenting) prior to embarking. It is essentially designed to help you decide if you should avoid it entirely.

A solid book, putting some unexpected questions and exploring typical reasons behind "I want to have kids" feeling. Unlike many other books, this one at least sometimes remembers that there is a man involved in the process of raising a child. It's a pity, but positive experinces and feelings of families with kids are covered only shortly, making less than 10% of the book. I think that this kind of the book needs them more than child-free stuff, because everybody already has a childless life and can imagine it well. Imagining the opposite is much harder and this is the reason why people read books like "Baby or not?".

This is a book every woman (and man) should read before deciding to become a parent. So few young people consider family life from a child's point of view. The author of this book takes this into consideration in a big way. Babies are not children forever. They are not toys, pets, or play things. They are future adults who need nurturing, stability, structure, role models, guidance, education, and love. Love is the easy part. The responsibilities and challenges that confront parents need to be considered prior to embarking on this most important adventure. The author points much of this out and simply explains the need for serious debate on the subject before the decision is made to become a parent. It seems to me, we have too many "children" (uninformed and poorly-intentioned people) bringing children into the world who then will have to struggle to find direction and stability on their own.Whether a person who reads this book decides to have a child or not, I believe, the information offered in it will make that person "mindful" of his or her choice. This is a good thing. This is a good book!

Wow! What a need there is for this book in the world. It is true what the author suggests that most people spend more time planning for their wedding than for a child. Unfortunately, even in that regard couples put a great deal of time planning the wedding, but not for the marriage. The same is true for the amount of time planning on the baby's arrival, but not for the child's life and the journey of parenting. The Baby Debate helps to raise everyone's awareness of this so important discussion of conscious parenting for the sake of the children. READ THIS and pass it on to anyone and everyone who is physically capable of giving birth to a child. It should be required reading before any young adult/teenager/adult enters into the world of sex and/or marriage!

This is very real question with an answer that holds dynamic impact on lives. Taking my life seriously, I decided no baby was the answer for me and am pleased to read Diane's book, Baby Debate... It is a must read for all newlyweds and single woman/man considering parenthood.

As a psychotherapist, I am always working with the effects of parenting. I have often said that if there was one thing I could change about the world, parents would need to be licensed. As that probably won't happen, if those considering being a parent had a heads up about what they were getting into, it would be a great start. Diane's book should be on the required reading list in High School! What a great contribution to the world of books.

"After reading this book I realized how much pressure other people have on people to have children. I love how this book helps them get clear on their decision! Great information. I'm recommending it to all my friends and co-workers!

Though it started well, this book was aimed towards straight women. While most often referring to the challenges you and your partner might face, she occasionally slips into you and your husband or how your body will change during pregnancy. Would it have been that hard to say, a woman's body?
