Transforming Therapy through Horses is coauthored by Lynn Thomas, Mark Lytle, and Brenda Dammann. Lynn Thomas,LCSW, is Eagala’s founder and CEO. Under her leadership, Eagala has advanced the first professionalized standards for equine-assisted psychotherapy, developing Eagala’s certification program into the industry’s global standard. Lynn holds a masters in social work from the University of Utah. Equine specialist Mark Lytle spent years building a private Eagala program before becoming an Eagala trainer in 2003, where accounts from his client cases quickly became the focal point of his teaching—and inspiration for this book. Mark holds an AAS in Equine Science from Martin Community College. Brenda Dammann is an experienced consultant and professional wordsmith working with clients to explore the intersection of ideas, creativity, and change. I've been in a quest in the past few months trying to figure out the path for a retired teacher of 30 years. Many things have happened and one is the potential of adding horses to our lives. In a world that is full of hurting people from addictions, abuse, violence, environmental issues, disabilities, etc... it's truly amazing that these beautiful creatures not only beautiful to bestow, but their innate ability to relate to us. Their innate ability to be therapeutic and be successful in a therapeutic setting when many of our human settings have failed miserably.The author did a wonderful job of sharing how the therapy works, how the horses have helped so many people who were considered helpless. I felt as if I personally know Twister, MonJour, Mr. Cool and sweet Abby. Be prepared with tissues for the last chapter, still wiping my eyes as I think about it.

This was an excellent start to bridging the gap between theory and practice. This could use a few read-throughs to absorb the information and I would love to have an audio version for my long drives. This is information from the experts, for sure and it fills a great hole for providers trying to put it all together, as well as for the curious to better understand the process. Great job, and thank you so much!

Highly recommended for anyone studying animal assisted therapy. The book is easy to read with plenty of interesting stories. It's very insightful. I would like the author to make an audio version as it's the kind of thing that I would listen to when on the road or relaxing.

Great insight into EAGALA! I read this while I did an internship at an EAGALA barn. I now feel very familiar with the tenants of EAGALA and all it’s benefits. I would however, like to see some quantitative research.

Thank you Mark and Lynn! This book is well organized, very approachable, entertaining and educational. I love the stories and how their message is linked to aspects of the EAGALA model. Reading this book will support certified EAGALA members in enhancing their facilitation skills and non-members to get great insight into how the model works.

This was an easy read, full of case examples. This is my favorite and most effective way to learn new concepts and have the information really sink in. I was so happy I read this book before the training in NC. It made for a fuller learning experience. Overall great book and highly recommended!

A must read for anyone interested in or currently practicing the EAGALA Model. The authors do a wonderful job of weaving case stories into the fundamentals of the model.
