Hydroponics is a very interesting way to grow plants. It sure has its challenges. One of them is to find resources that will help you troubleshoot and avoid the pitfalls. Richard’s book is one of those great resources. Once you get hooked on hydroponics, you need to figure out how to get the watering right, the nutrients, ph etc. it sure is a learning curve! Anyway, this book will help guide you with easy to understand instructions! It is nice to find a book that is more geared to the small home grower!
If you plan to set up your own hydroponic system then this book is very useful. As a beginner, hydroponics can be an overwhelming topic but this book explained the everything very clearly. It provides detailed instructions for the six hydroponic systems and provides diverse design variations on each type of system. Great for beginners (like me) and expects alike. There are many of illustrations which make it easy to follow the instructions.
This book covers everything you need to know about hydroponics. From nutrients and lighting for your hydroponic garden to DIY manuals to create your own hydroponic system. I loved the tips on maintaining a healthy garden. The book contains a lot of new ideas I didn’t consider before.
Now I want to get my system started. Maybe start small ..then expand. Excellent explanation for several systems.. from simple to more complex.

Living in a state that although beautiful offers a very short growing season has meant enduring long non-growing winter months. This year I wanted to look into hydroponics as an alternative during the off season. This book has great information on how plants grow with hydroponics, the types of systems used and how to set them up. The author does a good job of giving pros and cons of each system and it's practicality. Whether you are looking to do a window herb garden or full on vertical drip system you will learn about it in this book. The author also gives us the information we need on plant nutrition which as outdoor gardeners we give this job to the soil. This book inspired me to get a system started with confidence because I understand much more now. Great book to start out with!
I’m surprised at how well this book was reviewed. Several reviewers said I’d was good for “beginners and experts alikeâ€. Come on, are you serious. There is nothing here for experts and little for beginners as well. It does provide a basic introduction into the different methods of hydroponics in use today, but in most cases the description of the actual physical setup is too general to guide its construction. There is typically no information given for the specific material to use, only vague discriptions of a hypothetical apparatus. The illustrations are too simplistic and often not much help. This book definitely does not fulfill the promise of its title.
This book is great! I'm new to hydroponics and learned so much from reading it. It explains several different systems and gives easy to follow steps on how design them yourself, including detailed picture illustrations. It also has a great chapter on nutrients and how to use them effectively. I've really enjoyed this book and can't wait to try some of the new ideas I got from it. It will be a great resource for years to come.
