There are so many Herb books out their; if you could only get one this is it! I had seen this book at my Doctors office; in just the 10 minutes I was in the waiting room; I knew I had to have a copy! In this book there is anything from indoor/window/outdoor/patio/balcony herb gardens, Herbs in the Kitchen (With recipes included), Herbs for: dyes, toys, and potpourri. Herb for Beauty: skin care, skin cream/lotion recipes, herbal baths, soaps, hand, hair, eye, teeth care. Herbs for health: preparations, A-Z herb treatments. Cultivating & Harvesting: soil prep, propagation, maintaining plant shape. Growing herbs: in Container/ indoors. How to keeping herb plants healthy, Harvesting, and store/preserving them. (and much more!)Note: I have seen this book with a different cover picture; but everything is the same inside the book. I was able to get a hardcover copy in Good condition for under $7 (free shipping) so look around for the deals (for some reason the paper back copy was listed as $8 bucks more; strange right?) you won't be disappointed in this book!!! If I could give is 6 stars I would have!

I had this book once years ago but lent it to someone who never returned it. (I guess they loved it, too) I ordered another copy about a year and a half ago and (when will I ever learn?) lent it out to not be returned, AGAIN! I finally ordered this third copy and am not loaning it out to anyone. I love the pictures, the herb garden plans and, most of all, the recipes for food, cosmetics and dyes. A keeper in my book. (And at least two other people's as well!!!)

I had this book in and out of my shopping cart several times over the past two months.I recently started working from home and with the additional time on my hands wanted to start a small indoors cooking herbs set up.This book has not only helped with that, as it details necessary lighting and has planting tips, but I’ve also planned out our vegetable garden now!I have only had this for a few days, but I’m hanging onto it forever.

This is a really great book about herbs. About half of the book is an "herb index" with colored pictures and detailed information about various herbs. This book focuses a lot on how to use herbs in everyday life. There are tons of recipes, some for more common uses, like herbal soups and breads. But there is a lot of information on less-common ways of utilizing herbs, like making herbal dyes, paper, potpourri, facial creams, and essential oils. I haven't tried all of the recipes, so I cannot say for certain that they are all fabulous, but there is definitely plenty of information.This book has a 1988 copyright, and it does give off a little bit of an 80's vibe, but herbs haven't changed much in the last few decades, and the majority of the information is still useful. While this book doesn't devote a great deal of time to actually growing herbs, it's a good book for learning how to actually use them.

This is a wonderful coffee table book, plenty of color pictures and facts and uses for herbs. It is a large hardback book and will take many hours of my time as I read it in more detail and there is plenty of detail. This book would make a wonderful gift, the quality is so good. I definitely would recommend this to a potential buyer, whether they are studying herbs or buying a gift.

I was given this book when it was originally published, when I was a new gardener. This remains my favorite and I give it to new gardeners for info & inspiration. Excellent coverage of herbs including uses, history, growing info, garden design.... On & on. Love it.

Very comprehensive book on herbs, indeed probably one of the very best I have seen. I particularly like the index of herbs as it gives extremely clear descriptions, photos, properties of each herb, uses and cultivation. So many plants are listed, even some that are usually not included in herbals. The back portion is devoted to recipes and uses, decorative, cosmetic, and medicinal. This is a great reference for anyone wanting to learn about, grow, and use herbal plants.

This past Spring I really got into wanting to grow and use fresh herbs when cooking. I ordered this book because I was pretty clueless about how and when to use them, much less how to grow them. After reading all the reviews (I'm an avid review reader and won't order anything until I have researched a product and read all the reviews), I ordered this book. It's such an awesome resource book, easy to read and has beautiful illustrations. Highly recommend it. I also have since ordered Tony Hill's book "The Spice Lover's Guide to Herbs and Spices" and both books have become my "go to" books.
