Joe Tatta is a licensed doctor of physical therapy, certified clinical nutritionist, and functional medicine practitioner with more than seventeen years of experience in the realm of health care. He received a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from SUNY Health Science Center of New York, a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Arcadia University, and Training in Nutrition and Functional Medicine from the University of Western States. Dr. Tatta is the co-founder of Premier Physical Therapy & Wellness, one of the largest outpatient physical therapy providers in the New York tri-state area, with thirteen locations throughout Manhattan, Westchester, and Connecticut. Dr. Tatta's career has been devoted to helping people resolve pain and improve their vitality. In addition to being a licensed physical therapist, he is an Orthopedic Certified Specialist (OCS) through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists. He has completed additional training in parallel fields, including nutrition and functional medicine. He has taught seminars on back pain, diet, exercise, stress reduction, and other various wellness topics and trained hundreds of clinicians. As a physical therapist with 22 years of clinical experience, I am very excited to have this resource to offer friends, family, and patients. This book is even very good for those who do not have any pain at all. This book covers the primary areas of self-care that I emphasize with my patients. This is a very holistic approach to pain and wellness. I have watched many webinars and listened to many podcasts from the author who is also a physical therapist with additional training. I always learn a ton from his content and trust his recommendations. He has a companion program for those who want/need more knowledge and support. For those who want health, freedom from pain, and a rich life I highly recommend this book. Medication is not the answer folks! Education, movement, nutrition, and mindfulness are the answers! Please do it for yourself and your family.UPDATE: March 2019: I am in the middle of a Functional Nutrition for Chronic Pain certification course being taught by the author. It is an outstanding course and makes me appreciate this book even more. Dr. Tatta is truly interested in helping others and so he is teaching others how to help people in pain via nutrition.I like to practice what I preach to my patients, and I have to say that by following Dr. Tatta’s nutritional guidelines, I feel better than I have ever felt in my entire life!

Most notable is the explanation of how pain is an output of the brain. Understanding how our thoughts, emotions, context, and history affects our pain experience provides direction for effective treatment. The book clearly guides through settling the nervous system, retraining the brain, healing digestive function, using food as medicine, and using gentle graded movement to reduce pain. This work displays the broad training and experience of the author, as well as his caring and generosity. Everyone in chronic pain should give themselves this gift. It is well-known that the medical system lacks the acknowledgement, assessment, and assistance with the intangibles that can contribute to pain: thoughts, beliefs, and habits. These are essential components for addressing change to any challenge. The book is useful for everyone with or without pain, but especially those who are overweight or obese with pain; there are multiple levels or modifications and examples of ways to conquer the issues at hand. Dr. Tatta delivers an incredible amount of insight that only those who are mindful AND have incredible body awareness and experience would be able to appreciate and verbalize. I hope that the readers review the book a couple times to help his philosophy sink in. Great book with a different concept of chronic pain than the ones we have become accustomed to hearing and it includes a plan for healing. If you are in chronic pain this book is an education and blue print for a step by step healing process from understanding pain, to diet(recipes included), exercise and lifestyle changes and more....much more. Dr. Joe is truly passionate about helping all of us who are in chronic pain.
Taking another pill may mask the pain for awhile, but until you break the cycle you might be causing more harm. That is what I learned listening to Dr. Joe Tatta's podcast: HEAL YOUR PAIN. That caused me to buy the book. I've given out copies as gifts. I know it will change my friend's life just as it will change yours. Put the pills down and pick up this book. It will make you feel better with no side effects.
As a patient of Dr. Joe Tatta's I can tell you that his method works! I was in chronic pain from a neck injury with daily migraines and had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic that I had taken. After trying almost everything else I turned to Dr. Joe Tatta who put me on his program. It didn't take long at all for me to notice results. I lost 26 pounds in 3 months, my migraines disappeared and my chronic neck pain got better. This was all in the fall of 2015. I still follow the program to this day and my symptoms have not returned. I highly recommend this approach to healing. It helped heal me, I know it will help heal you.
What a wonderful all around Mind-Body-Spirit book about pain. I was a 'pain' patient for over 30 years. Wish a book like this one had been available for me back then to provide me with the education I needed to make better decisions about my health and well being. ! I learned there is so much more to pain than its sensation. And there's so much more than food than what looks and tastes good. And there's so much more to pharmaceutical drugs than what the doctors told me. All the chapters were filled with quality content, but my favorite chapter in your book is the last one. Most of the book confirmed what I had already learned and it was nice to get a review. The final chapter includes aspects of health I am currently working on, filling in some blanks for me as well.
I have listened to Joe Tatta on podcasts which is what made me buy his book. I think he is amazing and he so much wants to help all of us in chronic pain to heal in the best possible way. I am not very far into this book, but I really like it to the point that I am at. I highly recommend that if you are in chronic pain to see Joe Tatta out and listen to his podcast or other podcasts that he is a guest on. He his amazing!
